I have issued three licenses for a customer (one at a time), and each time he received the error "the number of installations for this license has been exceeded". Any ideas what might cause this issue? |

Did you check the Authentications in License Tracker?
First you should import the Authentication data from the Authentication server (if you are using a remote database and haven't done this already). Then use the Authentication > Import Data from Server menu.
Once you have done the above, locate the license key in License Tracker and then expand it to look at the Authentications. You should be able to see if he has authenticated the license key successfully on a computer.
It may be that the customer is simply trying to install it on more computers then what you have allowed for the Product (Max Authentications).
You can also change the number of computers that a selected license key can be installed on by selecting the license key and then using the Authentication > Set License Limits menu. You can click the Override default checkbox and set the number of allowed Max Authentications for the license. _________________ Infralution Support |

Version 4 is very old and we can only provide limited support for it. The last release for this was over 6 years ago. It may have compatibility issues with Windows 8 and 10. The current major release is Version 6. If you are still actively using ILS then we would strongly recommend an upgrade at some point.
Have you ever imported Authentication Data into License Tracker?
The error you are getting indicates that the product settings that the server is using somehow are don't match those in your License Tracker database. This may be because you have changed the product passwords in License Tracker or else at some stage tried to recreate the products manually.
In version 4 it was a manual process to configure the Authentication Server. First you needed to write the AuthenticationServerSettings.xml file (using the Configure Authentication Server button) then you needed to upload this file to the server and force the server to restart. See the help section on "Deploying and Configuring the Authentication Server" for more detail.
You could go through the above process to update the Authentication Server settings so that you can import data. However if your application was able to authenticate license keys with the previous settings then updating them will probably now break the applications ability to authenticate. You would then have to update the License Parameters in your application code and rebuild it (and distribute it to customers).
Are other customers currently able to authenticate licenses?
Do you have a large customer database? _________________ Infralution Support |

I believe so, but it would have been years ago.

Yes. It is only 1 customer having an issue.

No, it is VERY small. |

Without the ability to connect to the Authentication Server you won't be able to do anything to resolve the issue with this particular key. You could try generating a new license key from License Tracker and see whether that works. You could also try generating another key and installing it on one of your own systems just to make sure there is not an issue with this particular customers PC.
Given you customer base is very small you may be willing to simply rebuild your application (with new license parameters generated from License Tracker). Then reconfigure the Authentication Server (as described in the help). You would need to make the rebuild application available to your customers to allow them to install keys. _________________ Infralution Support |
