|
|
I've been trying the trial version and I am very impressed with this product. But, it seems that the shortest license key possible is 32 characters. This seems a bit long to have users enter as a CD-KEY type license code (which is what I want to do with it). Is there any way to have the key be shorter than 32 characters? Ideally, I'd like 16 or 20 characters. |

We'd like to be able to give you a shorter key too. Unfortunately the reality is that there is no way to have shorter key without compromising security - meaning that it would become possible for a cracker to determine valid license keys by simply examining your evaluation code. _________________ Infralution Support |

1) I'd like to second the notion that shorter keys are needed for CD distribution. Microsoft only uses 25 character keys for $25,000 SQL Enterprise server.
The problem is you can't cut and paste a key from a CD, and you might be shocked how many support tickets are generated over this.
2) Could you please explain the statement below? Sure, less characters would be less secure, but who cares as long as the developer is making a conscious choice to choose the tradeoff they are comfortable with?

We can certainly have a look at that idea. The earliest it could happen would be the next major release (probably a couple of months away) _________________ Infralution Support |

Thanks for listening.
Unfortunately for us this has ended our eval because we do a lot of CDs and can't wait to deploy the new product in question.
However, only you can say if it makes sense to add this feature to your product.
CDs are much less prevelant than downloads these days, and maybe we are one of only a few customers who would use shorter keys.
