We are thinking about migrating our authentication server which is currently running from our product website (a shared webhosting) to a cloud solution (Azure). The reason is the somewhat unreliable availability of the shared webhosting which is ok for a product website but not for an authentication server.
We would have to continue running the old authentication server until all our customers have updated their application to the new version which contains the url to the new authentication server.
What can I do to "synchronize" the old and new authentication server? Should both access the same authentication database? Should License Tracker point to the old or the new authentication server? Would I need two License Tracker instances?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. |

Initially you can just copy the database to the new server. If this database is accessible to the old server then reconfiguring the older server to use the new database will be the best way of ensuring there are no authentications missed during the change over. If both the old and new server are connected to the same database then when the URL changes over it will be seamless. If you can't do this then it is not a big problem - simply ensure that you are importing authentications regularly during the change over period and then once the URL change over has occurred use the Authentication > Configure Server menu in license tracker to select the "Upload authentication data" option and this will ensure that any data that changed is uploaded to the new server. You may lose some authentications if you are unlucky - but this is probably not a big deal. _________________ Infralution Support |
