Hi
I want to note that your translation of "Close" is wrong. It is still "Schließen" and not "Schliessen".
We are currently in the process of translating our software in finnish. The translator wanted to install the finnish dictionary but got an error. Unfortunately I got no picture it was some error related to unabel to show a preview.
However I tried to install the same dictionary on my globalizer, both translator and developer edition. I get I nice exception that the magic number of the gzip header is wrong.
I saw on the finnish translators screen that globalizer sometimes display some rectangles for the tabulator sign in the grid. but sometimes its not.
Because it's not always displayed this way it seems to be some kind of bug.
For me seeing this rectangles would be good because I could tell the translator if they see this they should use the "edit" window instead direct edit inside the grid.
I will send you a zip file containing the exception text, a picture of the "tabulator error" and the dictionary.
The dictionary was downloaded from http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/dictionaries.
One additional technical question I have too.
Can you tell me how you did you exception dialog? Is this some third party library or an inhouse development?
Best regards,
Sven |

I will get our German translator to check this.

You are right. It looks like there is an issue with installing new dictionaries. We will get a fix for this released as soon as possible (early next week).

Thanks for sending the screen shot. Little rectangles like you are seeing are usually the result of the text containing unicode characters from a script that is not installed on the machine. For instance this can happen if you have chinese characters in text but Windows does not have East Asian languages installed. You can install additional languages and scripts through the Regional/Language options from the Windows Control Panel. In your case however the rectangles are showing up in the English translation. While it is possible to include characters from any script in the English translation, it would be unusual - so I wonder if something else is going on. If you could email us your Globalizer.NET Workspace it might help us work out what the problem is.

Do you mean the dialog displayed if we get an unexpected error (like the issue with installing the dictionary)? This is just a standard Windows.Forms.MessageBox - with the text formatted appropriately. _________________ Infralution Support |

We have just released Version 2.3.7 of Globalizer.NET that fixes the issue with installing new dictionaries. Unfortunately this won't help you if you want a Finnish spell checker. Open Office supports the Finnish language spell checking using a completely different mechanism (via specialized Finnish spell checker enginer) to any other language because of some unique features of the language. The spell check engine that Globalizer.NET uses (Hunspell) is not recommended for Finnish and I cannot find any Finnish Hunspell dictionaries.
I checked with our German translator about the translation issue. He says that this is a difference between the German and German (Swiss) spellings. We will look at adding separate German/German(Swiss) translations in a future release. _________________ Infralution Support |

Hi.
I will inform my finnish translator about the dictionary issue.
I will send you a zip file with my finnish workspace and the exported project wich I sent him for translation.
I saw this rectangles on our czech translators screen too however in the invariant column wich is german in this case.
I installed a czech windows xp to test if I can reproduce it but it was unsuccessfull. :-/
Best regards,

Thanks for sending the workspaces. I've had a look at the the translation row you highlighted in your earlier email. The characters which are showing up as rectangles on you translators machine are tab characters (unicode character 09). On my test machines they display without the rectangles. The strange thing is that both the Invariant and the English translation contain exactly the same characters (at least in the workspaces you sent me). I double checked this by opening the workspace in a binary editor and checked the actual unicode characters. So I can't see any reason why one column would display rectangles for the tab but the other column not.
One thing you could get your translator to do if this occurs again is to copy the invariant cell contents to the English column as an experiment. _________________ Infralution Support |
