I found an old support question in the Virtual Tree Support Form...

"Is it possible to enable an empty row at the bottom of the virtual tree for adding a new row? I may be missing this in the documentation but I was wondering."

The response from Infraluation Support, dated February 2008...

"No this isn't possible at the moment - but we do have this on a list of Feature Requests for future development."

I'm hoping this has been addressed or you can offer a comprable work around.

Thanks.

We haven't implemented this as a feature as yet - in part because it is difficult to do in a data independent way. It is possible to implement this yourself for specific data - which is what I gathered from your previous post is what you have done. Are you having some other issue with your implementation of this?

I've tried to implement this myself by following your suggestion in my previous post: update the existing row, but then add another new row (so that you always have another row). adding a blank record to the database. The trouble I'm having with this implementation is the sorting... I want the blank (add new record) row to be last in the list. When the user is finished editing the blank record, I want to to be the second to last row in the list (just above the add new blank record.

Seems fairly simple, but can't get it sort this way. I may just give up and create a separate form for the user to add new record with.

I can see sorting may be an issue if you want that behaviour. Virtual Tree will automatically update the location of the edited row based on the sort column once you commit the edit. While in place addition of new rows seems like a nice idea it does have some other issues if you have multiple columns. If the user can hide columns then when they add a new row they may forget to complete data in the hidden columns.

An alternative approach which I have used to good effect in some situations is to provide a "New" button or menu entry that adds a new item to the tree and then selects it and starts editing it (by calling EditFirstCellInFocusRow).
