I note that ILS provides key strength values from 7 to 31, and that higher key strengths mean longer keys. But how does one go about deciding on a key strength? How secure is a 7, compared to a higher setting?

It would seem that at some point, higher key strengths deliver diminishing returns, because decompilation risk outweighs the added security from higher key strengths. But how does one decide where that point would be?

Any suggestions on key strength settings for a good balance between security and user convenience? Thanks!

A key strength of 15 is probably uncrackable with todays technology. A key strength of 7 will take considerable resources to brute force crack and maybe sufficient if you have reasonable regular releases of paid upgrades (which use a different password for each new release). If someone does take the trouble to crack your password in this case then most likely the version they crack will no longer be the latest.

Hi, I am not still sure, if I have an option to set the key length 31, then why should not I do that ? what is the performance price for doing so ?

Thanks

The only price is longer license keys.
