SharePoint folders provides one with options on how to group and manage your site content contained in a list or library. SharePoint sites that have a a lot of content should use folders in order to easily group and classify content categories for easier identification and to avoid mix-ups.

We’ll be taking you through the steps on how to add and upload files to a SharePoint folder using the Modern and Classic versions, and how to access a folder from your Windows desktop. Permissions Required to Create a New Folder
Across all versions of SharePoint, users will need at least Contribute permissions to the document library in which they want to create a folder. Folder creation is turned on in SharePoint by default.

If you have the correct permissions and still don’t see the option to create folders, your administrator(s) or site owner(s) may have turned it off or altered your capability to do so.

How to Add a Folder in SharePoint?
To create a folder in the document library using the Modern version:

Launch the SharePoint site where you wish to add the new folder, then open the “Document Library.”
From the menu, select “+ New” > “Folder.”
If the folders option is not available, it might be switched off. Someone with design permission or a library owner can enable the folder.
In the “Folder Name” text field, type in the folder’s name then select “Create.”
Your new folder will now be visible in the document library.

To create a folder in the document library using the Classic version:

Launch the SharePoint site where you wish to add the new folder.
To open the library, select its title via the Quick Launch bar, or click on the Settings icon.
Select “Site contents” then the library title to add the folders to.
From the ribbon, click on “Files” then “New Folder.”
From the “Create a folder” dialog box, in the “Name” field enter a folder name, then “Create.”

How to Delete a Folder Contained in a List or Library
If your server contains some irrelevant list folders consider deleting them.

Navigate to your website containing the list or library which contains a folder you would like to delete.
Click on the name of the folder on the quick-launch options.
Confirm the folder to delete by clicking on it’s row.
On the items-tab of the manage-group, click on delete item or delete document.
Your folder will be permanently deleted.
